Hamachi

SoftPerfect Personal Firewall

Install both.

Make three rules for SoftPerfect:

1) allow any type of traffic on any interface
2) deny udp ports 41000-41010 on your standard LAN interface
3) deny udp ports 6500-6600 on your standard LAN interface

When you connect to your friends with Hamachi, DS2 will work just like you’re all on the same local LAN.

Very kool…props to Hamachi.

  1. Hey, this was just what I was looking for. Thank you!

Would you mind posting a screenshot of the three rules that you added? We can’t get it to work and are wondering which options to choose.. My Computer:any, Any Address:Any, where do we specify the port ranges, in source, or destination? We’re eager to get it working. Thanks in advance.

Hi looks like a great idea; and we indeed got rid of the “nickname already in use” message in DS2. We can see eachother in the DS2 lobby, and chat, but……..we can NOT see or join eachothers games.

Could u tell me what the rules must look like ? because those 3 rules u wrote can be made in a lot of different ways. Currently we have it like this:

Deny1: Blocks bidir..udp packets on Local Area connection between “my computer:any” and “any address:41000-41010”

Deny2: Blocks bidir. udp packets on Local Area Connetcion between “my computer:any” and “any address:6500-6600”

Allow Any: Permits bidir. TCP and UDP packets on any interface between “My computer:Any” and “Any Address:Any”

Could u help us out here?

  4. We can chat and so.. “Person have created game -PERSON-” but I cant see that game nor join it >_

  5. I think the latest patch has changed some things. I’ll have to check out the packet flow with ethereal again to see what a “good” session looks like locally…or someone else could try.

I’m having the same problem as a couple above. I can see my friend in the lobby but cannot join using the original ports disabled and even with local area connection completely disabled. “Real” Lan works fine between my comp and my laptop so that’s not an issue. any ideas?

  7. Yeah, I haven’t played for a while, but I think someone needs to load up ethereal and analyze the packets that go over a local lan connection now…there may be more ports being used that need to be blocked.

I might get around to it, but I’ve been swamped with work lately. You can download ethereal for free at http://www.ethereal.com, start up the packet capture, and then try to connect a local lan game. This should give you enough data about what computer talks to what computer on what port, and which ports are being brodcast on.
